Pork Char Siu

Pork char siu is a classic Cantonese dish featuring tender, juicy pork marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then roasted to create a flavorful, caramelized glaze.

Ingredients

  • Pork Shoulder 12 ounces
  • Char Siu Sauce 4 tbsp
  • Oyster Sauce 1 tbsp
  • Light Soy Sauce 1/2 tbsp
  • Chinese 5 Spice Powder 1/4 tsp
  • Chili Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Garlic 6 cloves
  • Ginger 8 pieces
  • Honey 2 tsp

Directions

  1. In a large bowl whisk together Char Siu sauce, oyster sauce, light soy sauce, Chinese 5 Spice powder, chili powder, garlic, ginger, and honey until well combined.
  2. Place the pork shoulder in a gallon size freezer bag.
  3. Pour the Char Siu sauce mixture over the pork shoulder and close the bag. Make sure to save some for basting.
  4. Massage the mixture into the pork shoulder and refrigerate for 6 hours.
  5. Place the pork on a baking rack over a cooking tray and fill the bottom of the tray with water.
  6. Roast in the oven at 450F for 30–45 minutes.
  7. Baste every 10–15 minutes with the remaining sauce.
  8. Let the pork cool, then slice it and serve with rice.
